We understand members’ concerns for social well-being and environmental responsibility. However, we cannot use these concerns as the sole basis to include or exclude potential investments.
We assess environmental and social risks and opportunities in the context of financial performance. We have many investments that make positive contributions in these areas.
Read our case studies:
- Our water utility investments in Chile operate the infrastructure that delivers clean drinking water, takes away wastewater and treats sewage, all of which helps to improve health and sanitation.
- Cadillac Fairview, Teachers’ wholly-owned real estate subsidiary, is an award-winning leader in sustainable business practices for the development and management of its retail shopping centres and office towers.
Our independence from special interest groups, plan sponsors and individual members enables us to make the best decisions, on a collective basis, for our members, free from undue influence. We believe this approach is fair to all and satisfies the requirements of the Ontario Pension Benefits Act.
